Be Your Own Birder

Books for Birds!

I’m very fortunate that my passion for birds and my writing career are able to intersect, and even while I enjoy birds I can help support my family, pay bills, and save for the future. To help support the birds that help support me, a portion of the profits from my books will be donated to bird-related causes – so long as those books continue to bring me profits, I will share it with the birds. These donations are from me directly, not through publishers, printers, retailers, or distributors. For more information about donations, please contact me.

Migration Donations

Migration: Exploring the Remarkable Journeys of Birds

What better charity to support with a book about migration than one that seeks to keep birds flying along critical migration flyways? A portion of my profits from sales of Migration: Exploring the Remarkable Journeys of Birds will be donated to Champions of the Flyway, a stunning big day race event that fundraises for different bird conservation groups, all with a connection to the critical migratory pathways of Israel. I’ve had the privilege to see this event firsthand, witnessing its cooperative nature and how the organizers put the birds always at the forefront of the race. Each year, a different conservation group benefits from the collective fundraising efforts of the international teams, always raising awareness of how interconnected migratory birds are without regard to borders. Furthermore, the compassion of the race’s organizers extends well beyond their own borders, and they are happy to assist with organizing similar race events through other groups and in other countries.

Birds for Kids Donations

Birds for Kids Book

Children often have their first exposure to unique and exotic animals, including birds, at a zoo, and it feels right that a portion of my proceeds from Birds for Kids: A Junior Scientist’s Guide to Owls, Eagles, Penguins, and Other Bird Species would support a phenomenal, kid-friendly zoo. ZooMiami is uniquely positioned not only for residents, but also for visitors to have an amazing experience. Furthermore, this zoo features the stunning Wings of Asia aviary with more than 80 species of birds, plus numerous other bird exhibits throughout the 750-acre property: bald eagles, American flamingos, southern cassowaries, and more. I’ve had the privilege to stroll through ZooMiami and have always been impressed and inspired by its outstanding layout and thoughtful design that brings visitors right into the animals’ – and the birds’ – worlds. The zoo also supports a wide variety of animal conservation programs worldwide, including conservation of the Florida flamingos, spectacled eider research in Alaska, and programs involving the harpy eagle and endangered red siskin.
