Be Your Own Birder

A Caffeinated Wednesday Smile

Sometimes we all need a bit of a supercharged pick-me-up to make it through the work week. I’m especially feeling that way this week, having a summer cold and being altogether too busy with end of the month work. But a little jolt can make a big difference, and the end of the work week will be here before we know it!

Coffee OwlI’m actually not much of a coffee drinker, as I have more of a sweet tooth and the natural bitterness of coffee doesn’t set well on my tongue. With plenty of the right flavored, sweetened creamer, however, it isn’t so bad – I especially like peppermint creamer, but classic French vanilla is also a nice, smooth flavor. When necessary, I make my coffee at home; no fancy brews or complicated orders for me, and I couldn’t tell you the difference between a latte, espresso, cappuccino, macchiato, Americano or any other type – in fact, I had to look up different types of coffee just to make that list! But what I do know is that shade-grown, bird-friendly coffee plantations are fabulous bird habitats, particularly for migratory birds that spend winters in more tropical regions throughout the Caribbean, Central America and South America. So if you’re going to indulge, do so in a way that will help birds, and it will be a pick-me-up for everyone!
