Giveaway Time – Penguins in July!

Just as the days are at their hottest, I’ve got a cool giveaway to share this month – penguins! No matter how high the temperatures rise, we can always find something more to learn about birds that live in the coolest climates on Earth (or some of the species do at least – do you know which penguins live in tropical zones?), and All About Penguins: Discover Life on Land and in the Sea is a fun, informative, and beautiful way to do so.

Learning About Penguins

Penguins are amazing creatures, and no matter how many times you may see them – in the wild, in a zoo, at an aquarium, or on television – there is always more to learn. Furthermore, you’re never too young or too old to discover more about these birds and how to protect them. From incidental trivia to life histories to ranges, field marks, measurements, diet, mating habits, and much more, the more we know about penguins the better we can take appropriate steps to help them and promote penguin conservation.

All About Penguins

The Book to Win

Learning about penguins can start with the youngest readers, and it is a book designed for young readers but with appeal for all ages that you can win this month – All About Penguins: Discover Life on Land and in the Sea by Dyan deNapoli. This gorgeous, softcover picture book may have young readers in mind, but it doesn’t dumb down our knowledge of penguins or the diversity of these birds to any cartoon-esque proportions. Instead, the informative text helps educate young readers with proper terminology, defined in easy and explainable ways as they learn about every penguin species. Fun trivia, outstanding watercolor illustrations, maps, and more make this one small book a big addition to any penguin-lover’s library.

The giveaway is one copy of All About Penguins, autographed by the author – and it could be yours to win!

I have seen live penguins at Turtle Back Zoo in South Orange NJ. The many penguin Facebook pages are terrific substitutes for the real thing.

I have seen and pet penguins behind the scenes in New Orleans and Florida! I used to host penguin days in my classroom where we did scientific investigations all related to penguins. My students could tell you about every species!!
