Giveaway Time – Tea with Birds!

This time of year can be cold, gray, and dreary – the buzz of the holidays and the freshness of the new year have passed, but spring is still weeks, even possibly months away. Yet instead of letting these often bleak and dingy days get you down, it’s a great time to enjoy winter birds and warm beverages – the theme of this month’s giveaway!

Giveaway Time!

Loving Winter Birds

February is a month of love as we celebrate Valentine’s Day, and loving winter birds is something we can do all month long, not just on a single day. From the flitting of woodpeckers, chickadees, and nuthatches to the raucous energy of jays to the burst of colorful cardinals, winter birds can bring much joy to our yards every day.

Yet while it is so cold and snow still lies thick upon the ground, we might not enjoy actually being out among birds. This is the perfect time to watch birds from the comfort of a warm room, sipping a gently steaming cup of our favorite warm and cozy beverage – be it tea, coffee, or cocoa. We can even ensure birds have a warm drink of their own, or at least one that isn’t ice cold, if we provide heated bird baths.

Of course, warm winter drinks go great with treats, and while we might enjoy a scone, cookie, or other decadent bite, birds do best with winter foods rich in fat and calories to keep warm, such as sunflower seed, suet, or peanuts.

The Book to Win

This month’s giveaway prizes embrace the theme of enjoying backyard birds and warm beverages with the charming children’s book, Tea with Lady Sapphire: Sharing the Love of Birds. This darling book embraces youthful curiosity and enthusiasm while discovering a variety of winter birds – woodpeckers, nuthatches, chickadees, jays, titmice, goldfinches, waxwings, redpolls, and more. The book includes messages of conservation and appreciation, as well as introducing young readers to different facts about familiar birds, basic bird identification, and just how to enjoy all our backyard visitors. There is even a recipe for delicious snickerdoodles!

The giveaway includes an author-autographed hardcover copy of Tea with Lady Sapphire, but that’s not all! The winner will also receive a single-serving packet (1.6 oz) of one of my very favorite winter beverages, Candycane Cocoa from Stephen’s Gourmet. The rich milk chocolate flavor packed with peppermint bits makes a delicious drink for any chilly day.

I would have to say “all of the above”! LOL. I’m a Brit, living in Texas, so I’m a hot tea drinker by birth, but since living in the US I have come to embrace my morning coffee and who doesn’t like a nice mug of hot cocoa on a cold winter’s day?

What a sweet offer! I would love the book to share with my grandkids! My drink of choice in cold days is Peet’s dark roast coffee. Thank you!

I drink coffee all day but for a treat, hot chocolate is best. That said, a cup of tea is great anytime. It’s too hard to pick just one. If I need something to settle my stomach, I fix a cup of green tea and ginger tea mixed. It tastes good too.

(Melissa, if you should happen to draw my name, please draw again. I won last time so it is someone else’s turn. I just wanted to play too.)

Definitely coffee with cocoa added and a little peppermint and then to sit back and enjoy a good book and look out the window to see which bird is visiting today.
