Love the gallery of Blues. Can you tell my why they say ‘As naked as a Blue Jay’. I’m from Australia and these birds seem to be well feathered.
That is puzzling. Heard the saying all my life. Doesn’t make any sense.
For Therese Ralston and Donna Rosenthal, I see your question was a year or two ago. If you never got an answer, the term Naked as a jay came from the 1920’s and 30’s referring to men who were in jail. The original term was naked as a jailbird. Men who were brought to the jail or prison were sent to the showers given a kit and forced to walk naked from one end of the prison to the other. Jailbird was shortened to J-Bird then Jay.
